With the hammer-strike button tool you cover button blanks with fabric or thin leather. Compression is done by hammer strike — a button press is not required.
Plastic buttons (aluminium cap and plastic back) become sew-on fabric buttons for clothing. Metal buttons (aluminium cap, metal back and metal eyelet) become covered upholstery buttons for furniture, benches or sofas.
The tool is designed for “Bombe” (domed) button blanks, especially YETEN and similar (ASTOR, MIKRON, PIERO). It is suitable for textile designers, tailors, saddlers, upholsterers, interior decorators and shoemakers.

Tool size determines the diameter of the finished buttons. Choose the same size as the button blanks and the circle cutter for the fabric or leather discs.
Available sizes:
Button size is traditionally given in English lignes. For buttons, one English ligne is 1/40 inch, i.e. 0.635 mm. We also give the size in millimetres.
Common notations include:
A designation such as 24L, 24″, 24‴ or 24er therefore means a button of size 24 lignes.
Conversion: size in lignes × 0.635 mm = diameter in mm. Example: 24 lignes is about 15.2 mm.
The hammer-strike button tool covers button blanks with fabric or thin leather (max. 0.5–0.7 mm). It joins the two blank parts with the covering material by hammer strike into a finished covered button — a button press is not required.
